Severity of Wentz’s injury is unknown

The severity of Carson Wentz’s back injury is still not known.

Two people familiar with the Eagles quarterback’s injury confirmed reports that Wentz has a fractured vertebra, but no determination has been made regarding his status.

Wentz sat out practice for the second straight day Thursday, increasing the possibility Super Bowl MVP Nick Foles will play against the Rams on Sunday night.

Wentz is seeking more medical opinions before deciding a course of action.

Dr. Andrew Sama, a spine surgeon at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York, said breaks in the spine can be considered stable or unstable.

“If considered unstable, these breaks usually require surgery to stabilize the spine to allow healing. Stable breaks are usually treated with rest and sometimes bracing,” Sama said.

Foles hasn’t taken a snap in a game since Week 2. He took over in Week 14 last season after Wentz tore two ligaments in his left knee. Foles led Philadelphia to its first NFL title since 1960 and started the first two games this season, going 1-1. Fan loses in court: A Packers fan lost a court battle to wear green and gold Sunday on the sideline at Chicago’s Soldier Field, home of the rival Bears.

The Chicago Tribune reported that a federal judge denied a request by Russell Beckman for a temporary restraining order so he could wear Packers’ attire on the sideline during pregame warm-ups, which would be a violation of the Bears’ rule prohibiting fans from wearing opposing team gear on the sidelines.

Beckman argued the rule violates his right to free speech.
