Sarah Thomas

The first woman to work an NFL playoff game as an on-field official was the down judge in Sunday’s divisional-round game between the Chargers and Patriots. That’s a first, according to the league’s Twitter account. Thomas was hired in 2015 and was the league’s first female full-time official. Terri Valenti was the replay official in Saturday’s playoff game between the Colts and Chiefs, also a first. Washington radio station WTOP reported that Thomas began officiating in 1996 for the Gulf Coast Football Officials Association and worked her first high school game in 1999. She also previously officiated at NFL camps and practices.

Bobby Portis

The Bulls’ forward had a run-in with the Warriors’ Kevin Durant in a game Friday that left Portis with a sprained elbow and a feeling that the injury was purposeful. Portis and Durant got tangled on a screen, and Portis believes that Durant grabbed his right arm and pulled it down. “Yeah, that wasn’t inadvertent,” he told the Chicago Tribune. “If I would have done that, I would have gotten a foul called on me.” Each received a technical foul. “I asked him: ‘You got a problem or what?’ ” Portis said. Asked whether he got an apology, Portis replied: “Ain’t no apologies in basketball. Nobody feels sorry for nobody. That’s how it goes.”
