Notre Dame’s Mabrey leads win
With preseason All-America guard Arike Ogunbowale struggling, Notre Dame teammate Marina Mabrey took over for the top-ranked Irish in a 78-48 victory over visiting Wake Forest on Sunday.
“It happens to everyone,” Mabrey said after scoring 18 points. Ogunbowale, averaging 22.6 points a game coming into Sunday, was held to four. “I’m confident the next game she will be ready to go — she got the misses out of the way.”
Ogunbowale, who scored 30 points Thursday in a win over No. 2 Louisville, was 1-for-11 from the floor Sunday.
“Sometimes you just have that kind of day,” Notre Dame head coach Muffet McGraw said.
Jessica Shepard had 16 points, and Brianna Turner had 14 points and 12 rebounds for Notre Dame (16-1, 4-0 ACC).
Christina Morra scored 13 points for Wake Forest (9-7, 0-3). Demon Deacons leading scorer Elisa Penna managed just five points on 1-for-12 shooting.
Michigan guard Zavier Simpson, who scored a game-high 24 points, drives past Northwestern’s Pete Nance.
