Notre Dame’s Mabrey leads win

With pre­sea­son All-Amer­ica guard Arike Ogun­bowale strug­gling, Notre Dame team­mate Ma­rina Mabrey took over for the top-ranked Irish in a 78-48 vic­tory over vis­it­ing Wake For­est on Sun­day.

“It hap­pens to ev­ery­one,” Mabrey said af­ter scor­ing 18 points. Ogun­bowale, av­er­ag­ing 22.6 points a game com­ing into Sun­day, was held to four. “I’m con­fi­dent the next game she will be ready to go — she got the misses out of the way.”

Ogun­bowale, who scored 30 points Thurs­day in a win over No. 2 Louisville, was 1-for-11 from the floor Sun­day.

“Some­times you just have that kind of day,” Notre Dame head coach Muf­fet McGraw said.

Jes­sica Shep­ard had 16 points, and Bri­anna Turner had 14 points and 12 re­bounds for Notre Dame (16-1, 4-0 ACC).

Christina Morra scored 13 points for Wake For­est (9-7, 0-3). De­mon Dea­cons lead­ing scorer Elisa Penna man­aged just five points on 1-for-12 shoot­ing.
