THIS WEEK AT GOLDEN GATE FIELDS

- — Larry Stumes, special to The Chronicle

Schedule: Post Feature time: simulcast Thursday 12:45 p.m. race: through Grade Monday 2, $200,000 Palos Verdes Stakes on Saturday at Santa Anita Update: Trainer Larry Rivelli brought 17 synthetic track specialists from Illinois to run at Golden Gate Fields until Arlington Park near Chicago opens for training in late March. He won’t be returning with nearly that many. Rivelli had four wins, three seconds and a third from 12 starters last week, and three horses were claimed from him. A fourth, Rivzinthehouse, won last Friday’s second race and also was claimed but it was voided when the state veterinarian deemed the horse unsound. “My goal in the whole thing was to add to the population, not take away,” Rivelli said. “Bring some new stock to Golden Gate.” Seven of Rivelli’s starters were favored and two were second choices. “I love the place,” he said. “Obviously, when you win you like it more.” One horse that won’t be claimed during his stay at GGF is Richiesinthehouse, who beat the best local sprinters in last Thursday’s stakes-quality allowance event. The 5-year-old gelding has six wins and two seconds in eight starts on synthetic tracks. “On synthetic, he could probably beat anybody in the country,” Rivelli said. The trainer didn’t enter any horses for races Thursday through Saturday this week. … Mr. Twinery goes for his fourth straight win — and eighth in his past 10 starts — in Thursday’s second race. … Sir Vronski, whose 21 wins are the most of any horse stabled at GGF, returns to the allowance ranks in Friday’s sixth race after finishing sixth in the Oakland Stakes on Nov. 24. … Jockey William Antongeorgi III begins a three-day suspension Sunday for interference aboard Her Hush Money in last Saturday’s eighth race. … There is a special Martin Luther King Day program Monday and then no racing until Jan. 25. Elsewhere: Two-time Breeders’ Cup Sprint winner Roy H will be a strong favorite in the Palos Verdes Stakes. Roy H is certain to take his second straight Eclipse Award as the nation’s champion sprinter when the winners are announced Jan. 24. Among his opponents Saturday are the Jerry Hollendorfer-trained Awesome Anywhere and Kanthaka. … A full field of 14 will contest the Grade 3, $200,000 Lecomte Stakes for 3-year-olds on Saturday at the Fair Grounds in New Orleans. Plus Que Parfait is the 9-2 morning-line favorite off of a loss by a neck in the Grade 2 Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes on Nov. 24 at Churchill Downs. Mr. Money, a distant fourth in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile, is the 5-1 second choice.
