The Posies bring back the sunny side of grunge

- — Aidin Vaziri

The Posies, the Seattle duo that brought a ray of sunshine to the gloomy grunge era with their celestial harmonies and crisp power-pop melodies, is back on one of their frequent reunion tours.

Marking the band’s 30th anniversary, songwriters Ken Stringfellow and Jon Auer plan to perform a stripped-down acoustic set highlighting material from their three seminal Geffen albums, 1990’s “Dear 23,” 1993’s “Frosting on the Beater” and 1996’s “Amazing Disgrace” — all recently repackaged and reissued thanks to a fan-backed Pledge Music campaign.

The band may be more of a fetish object these days, but its supporters remain unwavering.

“I can’t say that I’m thrilled that more people don’t know about our music, but I also know that I didn’t get into this to be famous,” Auer said in an interview with The Chronicle. “I didn’t get into this to be the girl with the most cake. I got into this because I love what I do, and if I’m bitching about my level of success, then I should go try and get a real job.”
