Nobody’s asked them, but the idea of sharing a field with the Raiders got a thumbs-down from the regular tenants of Oracle Park.

Both on and off the record at Friday’s media day, Giants players expressed skepticism about inviting the Raiders into their ballpark. The Raiders have no place to play for the 2019 season and have been negotiating with the Giants to rent Oracle Park, which is a location in a city that many Raiders fans aren’t interested in attending, that has almost zero tailgating options, that raises questions of the 49ers’ territorial rights and that would create a scheduling headache, not to mention a about preseason games.

Would there really be zero overlap in the Giants’ and Raiders’ schedules? Does that mean that ownership assumes the Giants wouldn’t be playing past late September and that the playoffs are out of the question?

“I wouldn’t be the biggest fan. We saw what a weekend of rugby did here last year to our field.” Brandon Crawford ,on the possibility of the Raiders playing home games at Oracle Park in 2019

Any overlap, even by one game, could be a problem. Brandon Crawford is the Giants’ captain of the infield. The Giants’ grounds crew makes sure to prepare the infield to the Gold Glove shortstop’s specifications.

He is not thrilled at the prospect of the Raiders’ arquestion rival.

“I wouldn’t be the biggest fan,” Crawford said. “We saw what a weekend of rugby did here last year to our field. It was probably in the worst shape I’d ever seen and that was with our grounds crew doing a great job to put it back together.”

The Rugby World Cup Sevens was held in late July at the ballpark.

“After rugby last year the infield was not in good shape,” Crawford said.

Is irritating one of the best assets you’ve got worth the price of rent from Mark Davis?
