Former Raiders GM McKenzie hired by Dolphins as executive
Former Raiders general manager and NFL executive of the year Reggie McKenzie has been hired by the Miami Dolphins as a senior personnel executive under general manager Chris Grier.
The move was the latest change in football operations for the Dolphins following a 7-9 season. Grier was given more authority last month, and Brian Flores was hired as head coach to replace the fired Adam Gase.
McKenzie won the 2016 NFL Executive of the Year award for his rebuilding job with Oakland after the death of owner Al Davis in 2011.
The Raiders backslid following a 12-win season in 2016, and McKenzie’s two most recent drafts failed to produce many impact players.
Soccer team plays 7-on-11, loses 20-0
A third-tier Italian soccer team had a day to forget when it lost 20-0 after being able to field only seven players, all of them teenagers.
Pro Piacenza, which has financial problems, had forfeited three matches and not playing a fourth would have meant it would be thrown out of Serie C.
“What happened at Cuneo with Pro Piacenza is an insult to the sport and its founding principles,” Italian football federation President Gabriele Gravina said.
The team turned up at Cuneo with seven players, the minimum number required. They were all between 16 and 19 with captain Nicola Cirigliano listed as the coach. Cuneo led 16-0 at halftime. “Our responsibility is to protect the fans ... and the credibility of our championships,” Gravina said, adding that the game “which we just witnessed, against our will, will be the last farce.”
After winning five in a row to cut Barcelona’s lead in La Liga to six points, Real Madrid was stunned 2-1 at home by relegation-threatened Girona and is nine points behind its rival in third. Girona, which hadn’t won in 13 matches in all competitions and was coming off six straight losses, scored two second-half goals after trailing 1-0.
The Catalan club hadn’t won in the league since November and had entered the weekend one point above the relegation zone. Its last win had been Dec. 5 against Alaves in the Copa del Rey.

Three-time major champion Stan Wawrinka lost his first final since his comeback a year ago from left knee surgeries, falling 6-3, 1-6, 6-2 to Gael Monfils of France at the ABN AMRO World tournament in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
