Logano wins in overtime in Michigan
Joey Logano won his second NASCAR Cup Series race of the season, holding off Kurt Busch and Martin Truex Jr. in overtime Monday at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn.
Logano was trying to maintain a dwindling lead over Truex and Busch with five laps left, but around that time, Erik Jones went onto the grass, bringing out the caution flag that forced overtime.
Logano and Truex were up front on the restart, along with Kurt and Kyle Busch, and Logano pulled ahead and prevailed.
“He jumped the restart by over a car length,” Truex said. “I don’t know. I guess they don’t enforce those rules anymore. We’ll have to remember that for next time.”
NASCAR said it reviews all restarts and did not find anything problematic with this one.
It was the fifth win of the season for Team Penske and the third in a row for Ford at Michigan. The race was held Monday after being rained out Sunday.

The SEC flexed its baseball muscles, with Auburn and Arkansas posting blowout wins in the deciding games of their super regionals and giving their conference a record-tying four teams in the College World Series.
Auburn scored 13 runs in the top of the first inning to start a 14-7 win over host North Carolina, sending the Tigers to the CWS in Omaha, Neb., for the first time since 1997.
Arkansas, the national runner-up last year, scored seven runs over the second and third innings on its way to a 14-1 home win over Mississippi. The Razorbacks are heading to Omaha for the 10th time, and sixth since 2004 under head coach Dave Van Horn.
The SEC’s Vanderbilt and Mississippi State clinched bids Sunday. The conference sent four teams to the CWS in 1997, 2004 and 2015; the ACC had four teams in 2006. NBA: Tony Parker, who teamed with Manu Ginobili, Tim Duncan and head coach Gregg Popovich to win four NBA championships, is retiring after 18 NBA seasons. Parker, 37, played 17 seasons for the San Antonio Spurs and made the postseason every year of his career before joining the Charlotte Hornets last season and missing the playoffs. He was selected to the All-Star team six times and was second-team All-NBA three times. Parker started 1,151 regular-season games and averaged 15.5 points and 5.6 assists per game. He played in 226 playoff games, averaging 17.9 points and 5.1 assists. College basketball: Ethan Richardson, who played last season at Fresno City College, has signed to play for West Virginia. The 6-foot-10, 245-pound forward from Madera has two years of eligibility left. Richardson averaged 16.3 points and 7.2 rebounds last season, helping Fresno City to a 28-4 record. He attended CCSF as a freshman, averaging 11.9 points and 5.4 rebounds. NFL: The Detroit Lions signed former San Jose State quarterback David Fales and waived former Raiders quarterback Connor Cook. Fales replaces Cook as a backup candidate behind Matthew Stafford and Tom Savage. Fales, who played in Miami the previous two years, has completed 29 of 43 passes in his career for 265 yards with one touchdown and an interception. Courts: Former NFL tight end Kellen Winslow Jr. has been convicted of raping a 58-year-old homeless woman last year in San Diego County. A jury returned the verdict Monday in San Diego Superior Court in Vista and was continuing to deliberate on two more counts of rape involving a hitchhiker and an unconscious teenage girl. Winslow, who played for Cleveland, Tampa Bay, New England and the New York Jets, faces up to life in prison.
