- — Steve Kroner

The Chicago Blackhawks traded Artem Anisimov to Ottawa in exchange for Zack Smith, a swap of 31yearold forwards.

Anisimov played four seasons for the Blackhawks, scoring 77 goals and adding 78 assists in 291 games, including 15 goals and 22 assists last season. The Russian also has played with the New York Rangers and Columbus Blue Jackets over 11 years in the NHL.

Smith played 70 games last season for the Senators, scoring nine goals and adding a careerhigh 19 assists. The Canadian has played his entire 11season NHL career with the Senators with 94 goals and 99 assists in 612 career games. Smith was placed on waivers in September only to go unclaimed. He had nine goals and 19 assists for the Senators last season.

The Washington Capitals took care of their biggest remaining offseason priority Tuesday by resigning winger Jakub Vrana to a $6.7 million, twoyear contract.

Vrana had been a restricted free agent and will count $3.35 million against the salary cap in each of the next two seasons. Vrana, 23, set career highs with 24 goals, 23 assists and 47 points last season. The 2014 firstround pick is a big part of the Capitals trying to keep their championship window open after winning the Stanley Cup in 2018. NBA: The Sacramento Kings signed freeagent forward Richaun Holmes to a twoyear, $10 million deal. Holmes averaged 8.2 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.1 blocked shots per game last season for the Phoenix Suns. He also shot 60.8% from the field. College basketball: USF has added former NBA center Mamadou N’Diaye to head coach Todd Golden’s staff. N’Diaye played five seasons (200005) in the NBA. The 7footer has been an assistant coach at Coastal Carolina and Georgia Tech.
