A heat wave this weekend is expected to push Bay Area temperatures into triple digits in some parts of the region.

Inland areas will see the highest temperatures, while cool marine air will keep San Francisco more temperate, according to the National Weather Service.

San Francisco should reach the mid70s on Saturday, but San Jose and Redwood City could have temperatures in the low 90s, while cities in the East Bay, such as Livermore and Concord, are expected to surpass 100 degrees.

“At this time, we’re not expecting record highs. This weather pattern is above average temperatures, but it’s not out of the normal in terms of what we typically see in a given summer,” said Spencer Tangen, a National Weather Service meteorologist.

In the North Bay, high temperatures likely will range from the mid90s to above 100. North Bay valleys will be on the cooler end, while parts of Sonoma and Napa counties could reach 103 degrees, officials said.

The heat will also decrease moisture in the air, which could worsen fire activity, but winds are expected to remain low.

The forecast also includes a low chance of a dry thunderstorm Thursday night to early Friday morning.

“The reason we’re saying dry thunderstorm is that the lower part of the atmosphere is really dry,” Tangen said. “Any rain that develops with the thunderstorm will probably evaporate before it hits the ground.”

During hot weather, officials advise people to finish outdoor activities in the morning before it gets hot, drink plenty of fluids and find shade to cool off.

The heat wave is expected to subside by Monday, Tangen said.
