Chase Center sneak peek: Warriors to host Clippers in opener, Rockets on Christmas

-

News about the NBA schedule for the coming season is starting to trickle out, including this marquee matchup: The Warriors hosting Houston on Christmas at Chase Center in San Francisco.

That’s according to a tweet posted Friday by ESPN’s Tim McMahon, citing unidentified sources.

The Warriors also are expected to host Kawhi Leonard, Paul George and the Los Angeles Clippers on Oct. 24. That’s tentatively scheduled as the first regularseason game at Chase, league sources told Marc Stein of the New York Times.

Both matchups make sense, as the Warriors try to maintain their supremacy against daunting odds with Klay Thompson injured and Kevin Durant and Andre Iguodala gone. Golden State still features bigname stars in Stephen Curry and Draymond Green, and the reshaped Rockets — whom the Warriors eliminated in last season’s Western Conference semifinals — counter with James Harden and newly acquired Russell Westbrook.

Other Christmas games on the schedule, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski and Malika Andrews: ClippersLakers, New Orleans at Denver, Boston at Toronto and Milwaukee at Philadelphia.

The Nuggets agreed to a multiyear deal with forward Vlatko Cancar, 22.

Cancar, selected by Denver with the 49th pick in the 2017 NBA draft, spent last season with San Pablo Burgos in the Spanish ACB league where he averaged 10 points and 3.7 rebounds in 34 games.

A native of Slovenia, Cancar also spent time with KK Mega Bemax of the Adriatic League.
