Stanford women top Colorado in overtime

Freshman Ashten Prechtel made a putback in the final two minutes for the goahead points and No. 6 Stanford slipped past visiting Colorado 7668 in overtime Friday night.

Mya Hollingshe­d hit a 3pointer with less than two seconds to play in regulation to give Colorado a 6462 lead, but Stanford (172, 61 Pac12) tied it with layup by Prechtel, who scored 12 points and had four rebounds — all in the final 5:01 — to send the game to overtime.

Lexie Hull, who scored a careerhigh 29 points, hit a layup with under 20 seconds remaining to give Stanford a 6261 lead, completing a comeback from a sevenpoint deficit. She also had a layup in the final 41 seconds of overtime to give Stanford a 7168 edge.

Freshman Jaylyn Sherrod scored 21 points and had seven assists for the Buffaloes, who have not beaten a Top 25 team in nearly three years.

Hollingshe­d scored 15 points and Aubrey Knight had 12 for Colorado (135, 25), which won just two games in conference play last year.

Colorado used 20 offensive rebounds to forge a significan­t advantage in secondchan­ce points. The Buffaloes had a 164 edge in that department entering the fourth quarter. Stanford recorded the next 11 such points.

Hollingshe­d hit a 3pointer and added a free throw to give Colorado a 5448 advantage with 5:38 remaining to play.

Two minutes later, Knight hit a 3pointer from the corner to put the Buffaloes on top, 5952.

Fran Belibi added 11 points for Stanford, which was without freshman Haley Jones because of a knee injury.

The Buffs outscored Stanford 82 over the final 6:07 of the third quarter and carried a 4139 lead into the fourth.

Stanford scored the last seven points of the second quarter, including Nadia Fingall’s 3pointer, to take a 2725 halftime lead

Utah 71, Cal 62: Brynna Maxwell scored 26 points and the host Utes (108, 34 Pac12) used a 100 run in the fourth quarter to take control against the Bears (810, 07). Sara Anastasies­ka scored 22 points to for Cal, which led 5958 with 6:40 left but missed eight shots and had five turnovers over the next 5:48.

#4 Oregon 76, #7 Oregon State 64: Sabrina Ionescu had 23 points and Satou Sabally added 17 points and 12 rebounds as the host Ducks (162, 61 Pac12) dealt the Beavers (163, 43) their third loss in four games. Taylor Jones had 21 points for Oregon State.

#10 UCLA 85, Washington 80: Michaela Onyenwere scored 31 points and Japreece Dean hit three free throws in the final 21 seconds in overtime to help the host Bruins (171, 61 Pac12) top the Huskies (108, 25). Amber Melgoza scored 14 points to lead Washington.

#18 Arizona 59, #16 Arizona State 53: Aari McDonald scored 24 points to lead the host Wildcats (163, 53 Pac12) past the Sun Devils (155, 53). Robbi Ryan scored 25 points for Arizona State.

Men

#13 Butler 89, Marquette 85: Kamar Baldwin scored 19 of his 31 points in the final eight minutes, helping the Bulldogs (164, 43 Big East) beat the visiting Golden Eagles (146, 44) in overtime. Butler trailed by six with less than 2½ minutes left in regulation, but Baldwin scored nine straight to force the extra session and then 10 more as Butler snapped a threegame losing streak.

Briefly: Kentucky freshman Kahlil Whitney, who started eight of the 15thranked Wildcats’ first 11 games, announced on Twitter that he has left the team and plans to transfer to another school . ... Kansas coach Bill Self told the Lawrence (Kan.) JournalWor­ld that the team’s video coordinato­r suffered a broken arm while trying to break up a fight between Kansas and Kansas State players near the end of Tuesday’s game.
