Sources say Warriors shooting guard working out without restrictions.

Warriors guard Klay Thompson has been training without restrictions for a couple of weeks, a league source confirmed with The Chronicle.

The Athletic was first to report the news.

Thompson, 30, hasn’t played in an NBA game since he tore his left ACL in Game 6 of the Finals last June. About a week before the oneyear anniversary of that injury, he was fully cleared for individual workouts. His sessions have ramped up in recent days and, according to the source, “He’s looking good given the injury he’s coming back from. Really good.”

Thompson’s focus is on getting in game shape after such an extended rehab. Per the source, he is expected to participate in the Warriors’ summer minicamp, which will likely be in late July or early August.

Since Thompson’s injury, the Warriors have overhauled their supporting cast. Minicamp will provide Thompson a chance to develop a rapport with the likes of Eric Paschall, Andrew Wiggins and Marquese Chriss.

Thompson physically is ready to scrimmage, but the coronavirus pandemic has complicated matters. Socialdistancing guidelines have made games of 3on3 or 5on5 an impossibility. At the moment, the NBA is restricting players to individual workouts — a guideline expected to stay in place until early July.

The Warriors haven’t been able to closely monitor Thompson’s progress due to the coronavirus restrictions, but those who’ve seen him recently have been impressed with the fluidity of his movement. There is a belief within the organization that, like many other players in their prime who’ve torn an ACL in the past decade, he’ll be able to return to his old self.
