Two pass rushers visited Santa Clara this week and it appears the 49ers will sign the less accomplished one.

The 49ers are likely to add defensive end Dion Jordan, 30, the No. 3 pick in 2013, a source said. The 49ers also hosted defensive end Ziggy Ansah, 31, the No. 5 pick in 2013 who was a Pro Bowl selection in 2015 and had a 12sack season in 2017.

Meanwhile, Jordan, who presumably will be less expensive than Ansah, has not realized draftday expectations during a threeteam, 10.5sack career in which he has been suspended for 32 games for violations of the NFL’s substanceabuse or performanceenhancing drug policy.

Jordan, who had struggled with drugs and alcohol, has said he has been sober since 2017. He served a 10game suspension last year for taking Adderall after he said his prescription had expired. He finished the season with the Raiders and had two sacks while playing 173 snaps in seven games.

Jordan, who has had two knee surgeries since 2016, was suspended for the entire 2015 season for his third violation of the league substanceabuse policy. He was suspended six games for his second violation in 2014.

As for Ansah, he had just 6.5 sacks while missing 14 games because of injuries over the past two seasons. Ansah passed his physical with the 49ers, NFL Network reported.

The 49ers are seeking passrushing depth behind Pro Bowl edge rushers Nick Bosa and Dee Ford, who is returning from offseason surgery for knee tendinitis. The 49ers averaged 3.9 sacks a game before Ford sustained a hamstring injury in November. They averaged 1.5 sacks in the final six regularseason games, when Ford played just four snaps.

Their pass rush was a huge part of last season’s run to the Super Bowl as the 49ers ranked fifth in the NFL in sacks. Their interior rush could be less stout this season after they traded AllPro defensive tackle DeForest Buckner to the Colts in March. Buckner will be replaced by rookie Javon Kinlaw, the No. 14 pick, who enters the NFL more advanced as a run defender. Seattle claims Reed: The NFC West rival Seahawks claimed defensive back D.J. Reed a day after he was waived by the 49ers.

Reed, a 2018 fifthround pick who can play free safety and slot cornerback, was waived because he suffered a torn pectoral in June that general manager John Lynch said will sideline him until at least early November. The 49ers hoped Reed would clear waivers so he could be placed on seasonending injured reserve.

“That’s a tough one for us,” Lynch said Monday. “The earliest we might’ve had D.J. back, was early November. … It’s been an active conversation, (head coach) Kyle (Shanahan) and myself and the medical folks have been having. Ultimately, (it was) too difficult to keep a roster spot for something that may go into December.”

Reed becomes the fourth member of the Seahawks who has played for the 49ers. The others are guard Mike Iupati, running back Carlos Hyde and fullback Nick Bellore.
