_1 Deadly carjackings: A gunman in Tennessee killed two people and wounded three others in a series of shootings and carjackings that ended with a highspeed chase as he fled police. He ultimately wrecked the car he stole and killed himself, while his remaining hostage survived, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said. The rampage began Sunday near Beechgrove when Dangelo Dorsey, 29, opened fire inside a vehicle, killing one person and wounding another. He then shot another motorist in the hand and a truck driver in the face. He carjacked a man and a women and fatally shot the man. The woman survived.

_2 Pedestrian struck: South Dakota Attorney General Jason Ravnsborg reported hitting a deer with his car on Saturday night but actually killed a pedestrian whose body was not found until the next day, state investigators said Monday. Ravnsborg’s office has said he immediately called 911 after the accident and did not realize he had hit a man until his body was found. The man, identified as Joseph Boever, 55, had crashed his truck in the area earlier, according to relatives, and was apparently walking near the road. Ravnsborg’s office said he had not been drinking before the crash. The Department of Public Safety is investigating. Ravnsborg was driving from a Republican fundraiser in Redfield to his home some 110 miles away in Pierre, spokesman Tim Bormann said. Ravnsborg was uninjured.

_3 Chicago violence: Gun violence in Chicago killed 10 people over the weekend and injured 43 others. The gunfire came amid a surge in violence this year in the nation’s thirdlargest city. Statistics released by the Chicago Police Department bring the number of shooting victims for the year so far to 2,887 and the number of homicides to 542. Last year at this time, there were 1,862 shooting victims and 364 homicides.

_4 Deputies shot: Authorities continued to search Monday for a gunman who walked up to a parked sheriff ’s squad car and opened fire, critically wounding two Los Angeles County deputies in an ambush recorded on surveillance video. Investigators asked for the public’s help in identifying the gunman in the Saturday ambush after officials offered a $100,000 reward for information leading to an arrest. The 31yearold female deputy and 24yearold male deputy underwent surgery after the shooting and are expected to recover, Sheriff Alex Villanueva said. The deputies, who graduated together from the sheriff ’s academy 14 months ago, were shot while sitting in their patrol car at a Metro rail station and were able to radio for help.

_5 Ballot ruling: The Wisconsin Supreme Court ordered Monday that the Green Party presidential candidate should not be added to the ballot, clearing the way for clerks to resume mailing absentee ballots. Democrats had feared that adding Howie Hawkins to the ballot would take votes away from Joe Biden and assist President Trump, who won Wisconsin by fewer than 23,000 votes in 2016. The Green Party won 31,006 votes in the state in 2016. Election officials had warned of significant delay had the court ordered Hawkins added to the ballot.
