A look the A’s often gut-wrenching postseason history over the past two decades:

2000 ALDS

Yankees win, 3-2: Oakland’s first postseason appearance since 1992 . ... In Game 5, New York scored six times in the first inning off Gil Heredia and held off the A’s.

2001 ALDS

Yankees win, 3-2: In a fateful Game 3 at the Coliseum, the A’s appeared ready to tie the game in the seventh on Terrence Long’s double into the right-field corner, but shortstop Derek Jeter caught the relay along the firstbase line and flipped the ball to catcher Jorge Posada, cut down Jeremy Giambi at the plate.

Giambi did not slide.

2002 ALDS

Twins win, 3-2: This was Art Howe’s final run as the A’s manager; he moved to the Mets in the offseason.

2003 ALDS

Red Sox win, 3-2: In Game 3 at Fenway Park, baserunnin­g mistakes by Eric Byrnes and Miguel Tejada cost the A’s runs in the sixth inning. They wound up losing 3-1 in the 11th.

2006 ALDS

A’s beat Twins, 3-0: Marco Scutaro doubled twice and drove in four runs as the A’s completed the sweep with an 8-3 romp in Game 5 at home.

2006 ALCS

Tigers win, 4-0: Magglio Ordoñez’s three-run homer off Huston Street with two outs in the ninth sent the Tigers to the World Series with a 6-3 win.

2012 ALDS

Tigers win, 3-2: Justin Verlander dominated Game 5, a 6-0 Detroit victory at the Coliesum.

He threw a four-hitter and racked up 11 K’s.

2013 ALDS

Tigers win, 3-2: Verlander threw two-hit ball for eight innings with 10 strikeouts in a 3-0 Detroit win in Game 5.

2014 AL WILD-CARD

Royals win 9-8, in 12 innings: Two homers by Brandon Moss helped Oakland take a 7-3 lead into the eighth inning before a late collapse.

2018 AL WILD-CARD

Yankees win 7-2: Aaron Judge hit a two-run homer off opener Liam Hendriks in the first inning.

2019 AL WILD-CARD

Rays win 5-1: Sean Manaea gave up three homers, two to Yandy Diaz, in two-plus innings as Tampa Bay took a 4-0 lead.
