The Kansas City Chiefs signed Le’Veon Bell late Thursday, two days after he was released by the New York Jets, giving them some muchneeded depth at running back and another option for quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

“Kansas City, # ChiefsKingdom, thank you for the opportunity let’s go!” Bell tweeted.

Bell, a twotime AllPro with the Pittsburgh Steelers, was cut by the Jets after a disappointing tenure in New York that lasted less than two full seasons. Bell and head coach Adam Gase appeared to not mesh since the running back signed a fouryear, $ 52.5 million contract with $ 35 million guaranteed last year as a free agent.

He will slot into one of the NFL’s most dynamic offenses behind Clyde EdwardsHelaire, who has been one of the league’s most impressive rookies this season. But the Chiefs have little depth behind him.

The Chiefs thought they would have Damien Williams, one of the keys to their comeback victory over the 49ers in the Super Bowl, but he opted out because of the COVID19 pandemic before the start of the season. Falcons shut facility: Atlanta closed its facility following one new positive test for the coronavirus. The team remains scheduled to play at Minnesota on Sunday.

Defensive tackle Marlon Davidson was placed on the COVID19/ reserve list this week, and the addition of a second unidentified person caused the Falcons to act out of caution. All team activity will be done virtually. Newton, Gilmore return to Patriots: New England quarterback Cam Newton and cornerback Stephon Gilmore returned to practice for the first time since testing positive for the coronavirus, putting both players on track to be in the lineup when New England hosts Denver on Sunday.

Newton, who missed New England’s loss at Kansas City after his Oct. 2 positive test, was activated from the reserve/ COVID19 list Wednesday. Gilmore was activated from the list Thursday, following his Oct. 7 positive test.
