Sueing has 23 points in Ohio State debut

Junior forward Justice Sueing, who played his first two college seasons at Cal, poured in 19 points and No. 23 Ohio State scored the first 22 points en route to a 9467 win over visiting Illinois State on Wednesday as the Division I college basketball season began.

Sueing, who sat out last season after his transfer, had seven points in the team’s opening surge. He was 8for9 from the floor in his first game since leaving Cal, where he averaged 14 points and six rebounds in 201819.

“It’s great to be out here with my guys,” said Sueing, who also missed practice time last winter with a foot injury. “It was a long time sitting out. As soon as I got out there, I was able to play off my teammates and jell with them. I’m just excited to see what we can do this year.”

E.J. Liddell added 16 points and Duane Washington and Zed Key each scored 12 for the Buckeyes. No. 4 Virginia 89, Towson 54: Trey Murphy III scored 21 points and Sam Hauser added 19 as the Cavaliers rolled in Uncasville, Conn. No. 1 S. Carolina rolls in its opener
