The outlook for Richard Sherman this week? Fuzzy. Head coach Kyle Shanahan previously had indicated the AllPro cornerback could make his return from a calf injury Sunday when the 49ers visit the Rams, but he said Wednesday the 49ers would “see how the week goes” in practice before determining if Sherman would return from a ninegame absence.

If Sherman does play? Shanahan said he didn’t know if Sherman would assume his starting spot or have a limited snap count.

“If Sherm is back there and back to himself at 100%, we’ll get him out there fully,” Shanahan said, later adding: “When Sherm’s ready to go, he’ll be back to his spot. But (we’re) in no hurry to do that. We’ve got a number of guys who have played well while he’s been out. And we don’t mind easing him back in, either. That will be decided by how he looks in practice these next three days.”

Sherman remains on injured reserve, but he had his threeweek practice window opened Nov. 9. The 49ers must activate him by Monday for Sherman to be able to play this season.

In other injury news, running backs Raheem Mostert (ankle) and Jeff Wilson (ankle) practiced Wednesday and Shanahan said they would be monitored during the week before determining if they could play against the Rams. Both players are on injured reserve and had their practice window opened Tuesday.

Wide receiver Deebo Samuel (hamstring) and running back Tevin Coleman (knee) were both limited in practice.

Suspension overturned: Cornerback K’Waun Williams’ twogame suspension for violating the NFL’s policy on performanceenhancing substances was rescinded because of issues with testing procedures, a league source said.

Shanahan didn’t confirm the suspension had been overturned but said Williams had been surprised by his positive test. Williams’ suspension was announced Tuesday.

“I knew that he had some issues with the failed test,” Shanahan said, “something that completely shocked him.”

Per the NFL’s policy, players are suspended two games the first time they have a positive test result for a stimulant, diuretic or masking agent.

Williams is sidelined with a high ankle sprain he suffered Nov. 5. Shanahan said Williams wouldn’t return for at least two more weeks.

Rookie’s injury: Rookie wide receiver Jauan Jennings is about three weeks away from being able to return to practice after he suffered a severe hamstring injury last month.

The 49ers placed the seventhround pick on the practicesquad injured reserve list Oct. 24.

Jennings is the only one of the 49ers’ five draft picks to not play this season.

“It was tough because he was doing really well in practice and definitely would have come up and ended up helping us this year,” Shanahan said. “But he pulled his hamstring really badly. … It’s been unfortunate because he would have had some opportunities here the way things have gone.”
