Even though it doesn’t open until March 18, “Immersive Van Gogh” is already showing that San Francisco can’t get enough of the legendary artist.

After strong advance ticket sales when it was first announced in December, the digital art experience that puts you in the world of Dutch painter Vincent Van Gogh through projections of his work has extended its run at SVN West through Sept. 6.

Lighthouse Immersive, the company behind the experience, is releasing a new bloc of tickets for sale Saturday, Jan. 16, that will include the new dates.

“The reception we have received from San Francisco Bay Area ticket buyers has been enthusiastic and welcoming,” said Lighthouse Immersive coproducer Corey Ross. “Despite the setbacks and challenges of COVID19 this past year, one thing is clear — the arts will be coming back stronger than ever in 2021. We look forward to welcoming audiences through our doors beginning in March.”

A previous version of the attraction opened in Toronto in July 2020.

Utilizing projection technology, visitors at “Immersive Van Gogh” will be able to step into images like his famous “Starry Night” (“Nuit étoilée”), “Sunflowers” (“Les Tournesols”) and “The Bedroom” (“La Chambre à coucher”). The experience, however, has been adjusted for COVID19 safety. That means mandatory masks, touchless tickets, social distancing markers and temperature checks.

In the 1960s, VN West was home to the legendary Fillmore West concert hall, a venue that helped popularize the hippie light show during rock ’n’ roll concerts.
