John (Jack) C. Alger was born Nov. 30, 1946 to John A. Alger and Virginia G. Alger (Scott) in Providence, RI. Jack and his mother took the train across the U.S. to meet Jack Sr. in California on his return from Guam. Jack was raised in San Carlos and graduated from Carlmont in 1965. He joined the Navy in 1966 and returned to civilian life 3 years, 5 months, and 18 days later. After the Navy, Jack joined the Sheet Metal Workers Local 272’s apprentice program, graduating in 1973. He worked for various contractors in San Mateo County until purchasing Rose Heating in Belmont in 1976. He ran the company until its sale in 1998. Jack finished his career with Critchfield Mechanical, retiring in 2005. He taught in the local 272 (later 104) for 25 years.

Jack is predeceased by his parents, brother Mike, and wife of 30 years Brenda. He is survived by his brother Joe, children Lisa (and Ken) Zeigler of Beaverton, OR, Daniel (and Jessenia Clements) of Montara, CA, stepson Patrick Mooney (and Steve Tom) of San Francisco, CA. and grandchildren Joseph and Abbie Zeigler, Noah and Malcolm Alger and Chase Heiberger.

Jack was a long time 49er fan who had season tickets at Candlestick Park for 20 years. Later in life, Jack took up Sporting Clays. Never a great, natural shooter, he managed to get on the right team with the sandbaggers.
