Get police involved

Regarding “Protesters target Santa Cruz Trader Joe’s again, saying mask rules are like Nazi Germany” (sfchronicle.com, March 1): A group of protesters targeted a Santa Cruz Trader Joe’s location for a second time, saying that mask rules are comparable to Nazi Germany. This is interesting because the protestors harassed not only the workers, but the customers as well. As a public health student at San Francisco State University, my perspective aligns with the medical professionals who promote mask wearing in addition to social distancing to prevent the spread of COVID19. What people don’t realize is many of these antimask protestors typically identify as white or nonpeople of color. One thing that would really make a difference would be for law enforcement to get more involved with these protests. If the group had been made up of people of color, law enforcement would have likely been involved and arrests would have been made. At the very least, these people should be fined for not obeying local regulations.
