Dons win in WCC tourney

Jamaree Bouyea scored 18 to lead three USF players in double figures as the Dons defeated San Diego 6751 in the first round of the WCC tournament in Las Vegas on Thursday.

USF (1113) built a 13point halftime lead and extended it to 27 with 8:01 left in the game against the Toreros (311).

Dzmitry Ryuny had 13 points and nine rebounds and Taavi Jurkatamm added 11 points for the Dons, who will face Loyola Marymount in the second round Friday.

Finn Sullivan scored 12 points for the Toreros. #24 Colorado 75, Arizona State 61: McKinley Wright IV scored 24 points as the host Buffaloes (20-7, 14-6 Pac-12) defeated the Sun Devils (1012, 7-9) for their fourth straight win. Holland Woods scored 15 points for Arizona State, which had won three in a row.

#2 Michigan 69, Michigan State 50: Franz Wagner scored 19 points and Hunter Dickinson added 14 as the host Wolverines (19-2, 14-2) beat the Spartans (14-11, 8-11) to clinch the Big Ten regularsea­son championsh­ip.

#3 Baylor 81, #17 Oklahoma State 70: Jared Butler scored 22 points and the host Bears (20-1, 12-1 Big 12) beat the Cowboys (17-7, 10-7), who had won five in a row. Cade Cunningham had 24 points for Oklahoma State.

#5 Iowa 102, Nebraska 64: Jordan Bohannon scored 26 points for the host Hawkeyes (19-7, 13-6 Big Ten) against the Cornhusker­s (7-18, 3-15).

#6 West Virginia 76, TCU 67: Jalen Bridges had 22 points and 12 rebounds to lead the host Mountainee­rs (18-7, 11-5 Big 12) past the Horned Frogs (12-12, 5-10).

#13 Kansas 67, UTEP 62: Ochai Agbaji scored 19 points, David McCormack added 18 and the host Jayhawks (19-8) overcame a 15-point secondhalf deficit to defeat the Miners (12-11).

#15 Texas 69, #16 Oklahoma 65: Jericho Sims had 16 points and 12 rebounds and Andrew Jones added 16 points as the visiting Longhorns (16-7, 10-6 Big 12) edged the Sooners (14-9, 9-7). Austin Reaves had 16 points for Oklahoma. #18 Texas Tech 81, Iowa State 54: Mac McClung had 20 points as the Red Raiders (17-8, 9-7 Big 12) dealt the visiting Cyclones (2-20, 0-17) their 16th consecutiv­e loss.

Creighton suspended coach Greg McDermott indefinite­ly for using racially insensitiv­e language while addressing the team after a game last weekend. McDermott publicly apologized Tuesday and again Wednesday for urging his players to “stay on the plantation” after the 14th-ranked Bluejays’ 77-69 loss at Xavier.

WOMEN

#8 Maryland 88, #12 Michigan 63: Ashley Owusu had 22 points as the Terrapins (20-2, 16-1) defeated the host Wolverines (13-4, 8-4) to clinch a share of the Big Ten regularsea­son title.

Loyola Marymount 85,

Pepperdine 73: Chelsey Gipson scored 26 points to lead the Lions (6-18) past the Waves (5-18) in the WCC tournament in Las Vegas. Loyola Marymount advances to face Portland.
