Brewers giving Bradley 2year, $24 million deal

Freeagent outfielder Jackie Bradley Jr. is joining the Milwaukee Brewers, reportedly agreeing to the parameters of a $24 million, twoyear contract.

Bradley would have the right to opt out after one year and $13 million. The Boston Globe first reported Bradley’s decision,

Bradley turns 31 on April 19 and is regarded as a top defensive center fielder. He had spent his entire career in Boston and batted .283 with seven homers and 22 RBIs during the pandemicsh­ortened 2020 season.

Highlights: Madison Bumgarner struck out six over two scoreless innings in his spring debut in the Diamondbac­ks’ 91 win over the Angels . ... Yu Chang homered twice for the Indians, backing Aaron Civale’s three perfect innings in a 51 win over the Brewers.

Briefly: Yankees manager Aaron Boone was discharged from St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tampa, Fla., a day after having a pacemaker installed. Boone intends to return to work in a few days . ... Reds outfielder Shogo Akiyama returned to spring training after a week away to be with his wife, who was seriously injured when a tree fell on her in a park in Cincinnati. Akaya Akiyama was hospitaliz­ed; her husband said that her condition is improving . ... Braves pitcher Max Fried won’t make his first scheduled start of spring training as a precaution because of a potential exposure to someone who has tested positive for the coronaviru­s. ... Reliever Anthony Swarzak, 35, agreed to a minorleagu­e contract with the Diamondbac­ks. He last pitched in the big leagues in 2019 for the Braves.
