Cowboys, Prescott finally get deal done

-

A third offseason of negotiations finally resulted in a longterm contract that will make quarterback Dak Prescott the highestpaid player in Cowboys history with one of the richest guaranteed contracts in NFL history. A formal announcement is expected Wednesday, the Fort Worth StarTelegram reported.

The Cowboys will give Prescott a fouryear, $160 million deal. It includes a record $126 million guaranteed, sources said. The first three years average $42 million per year. The deal can be worth up to $164 million and includes $66 million to sign and $75 million in the first year, the most in NFL history.

The Cowboys avoided placing the franchise tag on Prescott, 27, for the second straight season. He played last season on a franchise tag of $31.4 million and was to be tagged at $37.7 million last Tuesday.

Raiders running back Josh Jacobs’ traffic case was closed in Las Vegas with community service and a fine stemming from a vehicle crash. He initially was charged with driving under the influence after his Acura NSX ran into a tunnel wall at the airport early Jan. 4. The DUI charge was dropped a week later because his bloodalcohol level did not reach the 0.08% threshold.

The Seahawks saved $14.1 million against the salary cap by cutting defensive end Carlos Dunlap after trying to work out a longterm deal. The agreement when Dunlap was acquired from Cincinnati last fall makes him a free agent, but the team hopes to get him back. His 2021 contract included a $10.1 million base salary, but none was guaranteed and Seattle saves all of it against the cap by cutting him.

Tennessee will trade firstround pick Isaiah Wilson to the Dolphins, the Associated Press reported, citing an unnamed source. The 29th pick in 2020 out of Georgia played only four snaps as a rookie. NFL.com first reported the trade, saying a swap of picks also is involved.

Pittsburgh signed J.C. Hassenauer, a exclusiverights free agent, to a oneyear deal. He gets a shot to replace retired center Maurkice Pouncey after making four starts last season.

Washington placed the franchise tag on guard Brandon Scherff after his first AllPro season. He stands to make almost $18 million. The Jets guaranteed safety Marcus

Maye around $11 million by placing the same tag on him.
