The Warriors’ Stephen Curry and Draymond Green have been named finalists for Team USA at the Tokyo Summer Games from late July to early August.

Curry and Green were among 57 finalists, 42 of whom were named to the player pool in February 2020. Warriors guard Klay Thompson — out for the season with an Achilles injury — was on that original list, but he did not make the cut for the latest player pool.

It remains to be seen how the 202021 NBA schedule, which started late and was compressed because of the coronavirus pandemic, will affect players’ decisions whether to join the Olympic team.

The Warriors’ regular season ends May 16. The playoffs are set to run from May 22 to July 22.

Curry has won gold with Team USA at the World Cup in 2010 and 2014, but he has yet to play in the Olympics. Asked in September 2019 whether he planned to play at the Tokyo Olympics, he said, “That is the the plan, for sure. You know, obviously knock on wood, you don’t want any injuries or things like that to interfere.”

He has since said that he’ll have to reevaluate his potential involvement in the Olympics later this season. Green, who won a gold medal with Team USA at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, said in September 2019, “I definitely want to play in the Olympics next year. I’m actually planning my wedding around it.”

Warriors head coach Steve Kerr is set to serve as a Team USA assistant coach under Gregg Popovich at the Tokyo Olympics.
