USC edges Utah in two overtimes

-

Evan Mobley scored 13 of his 26 points in the two overtimes and No. 24 USC outlasted Utah 9185 in the Pac12 quarterfinals Thursday in Las Vegas.

The secondseeded Trojans (226) had a hard time shaking the seventhseeded Utes in a game filled with methodical possessions.

Utah (1213) hung around after trailing by 10 midway through the second half and rallied to tie the game on Ian Martinez’s two free throws with 2.3 seconds left in regulation.

The Utes tied it again in the first overtime on Alfonzo Plummer’s 3pointer with 24 seconds left.

Mobley had five points in the first overtime and eight in the second to send the Trojans into Friday’s semifinals against the CalColorado winner.

Timmy Allen had 20 points and Martinez 16 to lead the Utes.

Oregon State 83, UCLA 79:

Warith Alatishe had 22 points and 10 rebounds, Ethan Thompson scored all 18 of his points after halftime and the fifth-seeded Beavers (15-12) rallied from a 16-point deficit to beat the fourth-seeded Bruins (17-9) in overtime. Alatishe hit a floater in the lane with 11.2 seconds left in regulation to put Oregon State up 70-69 and UCLA’s Jules Bernard tied it with a free throw after missing the first. After Alatishe made two shots in overtime, the Beavers scored their final nine points from the foul line. Oregon State will face Oregon in the semifinals. Bernard had 19 points and 10 rebounds to lead UCLA, which lost its fourth straight.

Oregon 91, Arizona State 73:

LJ Figueroa scored 21 points and Will Richardson had 17 to lead five Ducks in double figures as top-seeded Oregon (20-5) beat the Sun Devils (11-14). Eugene Omoruyi had 15 points, Amauri Hardy added 11 and Chandler Lawson had 10 for the Ducks, who shot 59% from the field. Richardson returned from a thumb injury on Feb. 3 after missing Oregon’s run of eight wins in nine games in December and January. He was coming off a 22point game in the regularseason finale against Oregon State, and the Ducks are now 11-2 with him in the lineup. Alonzo Verge Jr. led Arizona State with 28 points.
