Brady signs to be QB in NFL at 45

Tom Brady wants to play until he is at least 45. If he does, it will be for Tampa Bay.

The Bucs added a year to the 43yearold quarterbac­k’s deal, which now runs through the 2022 season, and gained salarycap room in the process with three voidable years.

Details of the deal weren’t released. According to reports, it represents a savings of $19 million against the 2021 salary cap. Brady signed a twoyear, $50 million pact last March and was to count $28.4 million against the cap because of incentives earned.

The former San Mateo County prep star has been to 10 Super Bowls and has seven rings.

⏩ The Bears and punter Pat O’Donnell agreed to a oneyear contract extension for next season. He holds franchise records for punting average (45 yards) and net average (39.4).

High schools: A broadcaste­r was caught on a hot mike calling the Norman High School girls basketball team racist slurs for kneeling at a state tournament in Oklahoma on Thursday. “F— n—,” Matt Rowan can be heard saying in a short clip widely shared on Twitter. Rowan denied that and other comments then fessed up and blamed low blood sugar.

Baseball: Trevor Cahill, who pitched in 11 games and made six starts for the Giants last season, signed a oneyear deal with the Pirates. The 33yearold righthande­r will compete for a spot in the rotation.

⏩ Outfielder Nick Markakis retired, ending a 15year career that included an ALCS appearance with the Orioles in 2014. He hit .290 in nine seasons with Baltimore and won two Gold Gloves before spending his last six seasons in Atlanta.

⏩ Two tests were positive for coronaviru­s, both among players, during 14,704 samples collected in the past week under Major League Baseball’s monitoring program. The Reds’ Joey Votto tested positive, the Reds said Wednesday. There have been 12 positive tests — nine for players, three for staff, among 43,928 monitoring tests during spring training, a rate of 0.3%, the commission­er’s office said. The positive tests were among nine of the 30 teams.

The firsttosev­en series stands at three races each for Team New Zealand and Luna Rossa, the Italian challenger. Each took advantage of a prestart error by the other. Luna Rossa exploited Team New Zealand’s mistake to win the first race of the day by 18 seconds and, in a mirror image, Team New Zealand pounced on Luna Rossa’s mistake to win race six by 1 minute, 41 seconds.
