Stanford Live to show alums on big screen
Stanford Live plans to present “Stanford Under the Stars: Movie Nights at Frost,” a sevenweek outdoor movie series at its Frost Amphitheater, beginning Thursday, April 29, screening films centered on a notable Stanford alumnus.
“Luckily, we have folks like Reese Witherspoon and Sigourney Weaver and Jennifer Connelly and Sterling K. Brown and Issa Rae,” said Chris Lorway, executive director of Stanford Live and Bing Concert Hall.
A miniature festival of Witherspoon films marks the first weekend, with “Walk the Line,” “Sing” and “Election.”
The second weekend, starting May 6, is dedicated to Rae, with “The Hate U Give,” “Little” and “The Photograph.”
The Frost can accommodate 8,000 people in normal times, but out of an abundance of caution — and to keep its first inperson events since the COVID19 outbreak of manageable size — Stanford Live plans to allow only 400 audience members, who can attend in pods of up to six people, Lorway said.
Also part of the lineup are features from recent graduates of Stanford’s MFA program in documentary film and video as well as short films by current students.
“We wanted something that would be fairly accessible and open and would celebrate the university,” Lorway said.
Tickets are $15 per person and can be purchased in pods of one, two, four or six. Any bags brought inside must be made of clear material.
