‘Hamilton,’ Noise Pop Block Party announce return.
LinManuel Miranda’s blockbuster musical “Hamilton” is set to reopen the Orpheum Theatre with a fourweek run from Aug. 10 to Sept. 5, BroadwaySF announced this week.
The theater plans to offer tickets to all its more than 2,200 seats, which makes the Orpheum the first major indoor San Francisco theater venue to operate without audience capacity restrictions.
Advertisements for the show have remained on the exterior of the Civic Center venue since the show and the theater shut down in March 2020. This new limited run precedes the show’s Oct. 1231 run at San Jose Center for the Performing Arts; it will
also be the first touring Broadway show to play in San Francisco since the pandemic hit.
“There’s no clearer sign that San Francisco is coming back to life than seeing live performances returning to our stages,” Mayor London Breed said in a statement.” Everyone has sacrificed so much over the past year to keep each other safe. Now, with case numbers low and our vaccination rate approaching 80%, we’re excited that ‘Hamilton’ is coming back to the Orpheum Theatre for our residents and visitors to enjoy once again.”
“We are thrilled that after a 17month intermission, we’re not only reopening the Orpheum Theatre with ‘Hamilton,’ but will also be the first Broadway theater in California to resume performances,” said Rainier Koeners, managing director of BroadwaySF. (Another touring production of “Hamilton” begins performances Aug. 17 at the Hollywood Pantages Theatre.)
“Our plan is to open at 100% capacity,” Koeners continued, “and we are working closely with the city of San Francisco to make sure our audience, actors, stagehands and ushers will safely return.”
Tickets for the San Francisco run go on sale Wednesday, June 2, at 11 a.m. Prices range from $49 to $179, with premium seats $199 to $299; $10 “Hamilton” lottery tickets are also slated to resume, with a limited number available for each performance. Visit https://hamilton. broadwaysf.com.
