On Friday, May 28th, Michael John McCormac, beloved father, friend, uncle, brother, and Bay Area native passed away at age 54.

“Mike” was born July 22nd 1966 to Theresa McCormac and Michael Finley McCormac. A native of San Francisco, Mike attended St. Cecilia School before heading to Marin County to attend Marin Catholic High School, where he discovered a love for playing rugby and football. At Marin Catholic, he helped lead the Wildcats to the 1983 MCAL Football Championship. After graduating in 1984, Mike continued his education and rugby career at University of California Berkeley and graduated with a BA in History in 1989.

Professionally, Mike followed in his father’s footsteps, going into commercial real estate brokerage at companies such as Hines, Prometheus, Glenborough, and Kidder Mathews. Mike enjoyed real estate and was always eager to further his knowledge about the Bay Area market as well as educate perspective clients, tenants, families, and friends.

His passions included golf, music, biking, supporting the 49ers, Warriors, and Giants, and his family. Mike was his happiest self when he was spending time with family and friends, whether he was in Lake Tahoe, Santa Cruz, or the Bay.

Mike was a passionate person who would excitedly speak about or debate subjects he loved. He was fascinated with San Francisco’s history and was very proud to be a San Francisco native. While living in the Haight in his late 20’s, Mike met Suzanne Koumantzelis and the two fell in love. They would eventually marry and Mike was given the best gifts of his life with the birth of his daughter Chloe Eliza and later his son Ian Finley.

Mike was preceded in death by his mother Theresa McCormac, aunt Genevieve Pretti Thompson, sister Joanie, and grandparents Thomas and Bernice McCormac. He is missed, loved, and survived by his father Michael Finley McCormac, his stepmother Diana, sister Jackie Del Bianco (John), brother Joseph McCormac, daughter Chloe, son Ian, ex-wife Suzanne McCormac, nephews Marcus and Johnny Del Bianco, niece Sophia Del Bianco, uncle Gary McCormac, beloved cousins Jeffrey McCormac, and Gregory McCormac, as well as many friends, colleagues, and extended family.

The family is holding a private ceremony for the immediate family at Keaton’s Mortuary on Friday, June 11th, followed by a Celebration of Life for anyone that wishes to remember and celebrate Michael John in the St. Francis room of the Irish Cultural Center in San Francisco from 3pm to 6pm on Saturday, June 12th.
