Italy pushes unbeaten streak to 30

Matteo Pessina scored the only goal and Italy extended its unbeaten streak to a recordtyin­g 30 matches with a 10 victory over Wales on Sunday at the European Championsh­ip in Rome.

Pessina redirected a free kick from Marco Verratti into the net late in the first half.

Wales defender Ethan Ampadu was sent off with a questionab­le straight red card for stepping on Federico Bernardesc­hi’s ankle 10 minutes into the second half.

Italy, which won its opening two matches 30, finished Group A with a perfect nine points. Wales was second with four points and qualified for the last 16 at only its second European Championsh­ip.

The Azzurri first won 30 straight under coaching great Vittorio Pozzo from 193539.

Switzerlan­d 3, Turkey 1:

Xherdan Shaqiri scored two goals to lead Switzerlan­d past Turkey in Baku, Azerbaijan, and a likely place in the round of 16.

Irfan Can Kahveci scored for Turkey, the only goal the team managed at Euro 2020.

MLS:

Jakob Glesnes’ blast that ricocheted off the crossbar in extra time pulled the visiting Philadelph­ia Union into a 22 tie with Atlanta United.

Chile admits violation:

Chile’s soccer federation admitted that members of its Copa America squad had violated the tournament’s coronaviru­s protocols.

In a statement, the federation said it “recognizes the violation of the health bubble ... with the unauthoriz­ed entry of a barber who, despite his negative PCR test, should not have made contact with the players.”
