Down 7? No problem — Brewers roar back

Milwaukee prospect Aaron Ashby got roughed up for seven runs in the first inning of his big league debut, but Luis Urias homered twice as the host Brewers rallied to rout the Chicago Cubs 157 Wednesday for their eighth straight win.

The Brewers increased their NL Central lead to six games over Chicago. The Cubs lost their sixth in a row.

“Definitely an emotional roller coaster during that game,” Cubs manager David Ross said.

Willy Adames hit a grand slam in an eightrun burst in the fourth inning that put Milwaukee ahead 147. His error at shortstop helped the Cubs break loose at the start against Ashby. Nationals 15, Rays 6: Trea Turner got his record-tying third career cycle with a sixthinnin­g triple for host Washington. He’s the fifth player with three cycles, joining Adrian Beltre, Babe Herman, Bob Meusel and John Reilly. Padres 7, Reds 5: Trent Grisham hit a grand slam and a solo shot and visiting San Diego rallied for its 11th win in 12 games, winning a game called in the sixth due to rain. Cardinals 7, D’backs 4: Kwang Hyun Kim pitched five solid innings and helped himself with a two-run double for host St. Louis.

Rockies 6, Pirates 2: Jon Gray tossed six strong innings and Garrett Hampson had four hits for host Colorado.

Tigers 9, Indians 4: Harold Castro and Jonathan Schoop each drove in three runs, powering visiting Detroit in the first game of a doublehead­er.

Marlins 11, Phillies 6: Former Giant Joe Panik made an instant impression in his first game in visiting Miami’s lineup, homering in his first at-bat and adding a go-ahead RBI single during a six-run sixth as the Marlins rallied to win.

Mariners 9, Blue Jays 7: In Buffalo, N.Y., Dylan Moore hit a three-run homer in the 10th inning and Seattle held on after blowing two earlier leads.

Red Sox 6, Royals 2: J.D. Martinez hit a three-run homer and Hunter Renfroe had a solo shot as host Boston won its sixth consecutiv­e game.

Braves 20, Mets 2: Ozzie Albies had two home runs, two RBI singles and seven RBIs as host Atlanta scored the game’s final 20 runs and outhit the Mets 20-4. The Braves’ Ronald Acuña Jr. and Ehire Adrianza also homered.

Orioles 5, Astros 2: Austin Hays homered and Ryan Mountcastl­e drove in two runs to help visiting Baltimore wrap up a three-game sweep.

White Sox 13, Twins 3: Yasmani Grandal hit a three-run shot and a towering two-run drive, and host Chicago went deep six times to pound Minnesota. Rookie Andrew Vaughn of Cal hit a two-run homer and had three RBIs.

Briefly: Fired New York Mets general manager Jared Porter was suspended by MLB through the end of the 2022 season after an investigat­ion of a report that he sent sexually explicit text messages and images to a female reporter in 2016 while he was with the Chicago Cubs . ... Mets reliever Dellin Betances will have surgery on his right shoulder and miss the rest of the year.
