Brewers start early, Royals finish it late

Ryan O’Hearn and Jorge Soler homered as the Kansas City Royals beat the host Milwaukee Brewers 52 Tuesday in a game that began early to give local fans a chance to watch the NBA Finals.

The start time was moved up four hours at American Family Field. The ballpark is about three miles from downtown Fiserv Forum, where as many as 65,000 people were expected to watch Game 6 of the Finals from outdoor plazas. The Milwaukee Bucks beat the Phoenix Suns 10598 for their first championsh­ip since 1971.

“Hopefully we come out tomorrow after a Bucks win and tie the series,” said the Brewers’ Brett Anderson, who gave up two runs and three hits in five innings.

O’Hearn hit a tiebreakin­g, tworun homer in the seventh off exGiant Hunter Strickland (01).

Cubs 7, Cardinals 6: Visiting Chicago scored six runs in the ninth, keyed by Ian Happ’s go-ahead two-run double, to shock St. Louis, whose closer, Alex Reyes, had converted his first 22 save chances this year. Chicago sent 10 batters to the plate in the ninth, capitalize­d on three walks, an error and a missed third strike.

Tigers 4, Rangers 1: Robbie Grossman and Eric Haase each hit a solo home run as host Detroit pushed its winning streak to five games.

Rays 9, Orioles 3: Randy Arozarena hit a leadoff double and his first home run since June 17 for host Tampa Bay. Francisco Mejia, catching with Mike Zunino out with left hip tightness, hit a two-run homer and a three-run triple.

Nationals 6, Marlins 3: Josh Bell hit his 100th career home run and host Washington rallied past Miami for its third straight win. Adam Duvall hit a three-run homer to give the Marlins a 3-2 lead in the sixth.

Yankees 6, Phillies 4: Aroldis Chapman allowed a run in the ninth inning before getting his first save in over a month, and host New York hit four homers to power past Philadelph­ia.

Astros 9, Indians 3: Jose Altuve marked the 10th anniversar­y of his major-league debut with a leadoff homer, then went deep again on his next at-bat for host Houston.

White Sox 9, Twins 5: Jose Abreu doubled and tripled early, then homered to cap a five-run rally in the eighth inning that vaulted host Chicago past Minnesota.

Mariners 6, Rockies 4: Marco Gonzales earned his first win since April 15 and Dylan Moore homered for visiting Seattle.

Reds 4, Mets 3: Joey Votto and Aristides Aquino homered on consecutiv­e pitches, Wade Miley worked into the seventh inning and host Cincinnati snapped a four-game skid.

Braves 2, Padres 1: Freddie Freeman hit a tie-breaking homer in the bottom of the sixth for Atlanta, whose starter, Touki Toussaint, won in his first game since September. Toussaint had been out with a right shoulder strain.

Red Sox-Blue Jays, postponed: The game in Buffalo, N.Y., was postponed because of thundersto­rms. It will be made up as part of a doublehead­er Aug. 7 in Toronto.
