Bama QB worth nearly a million

- LOS ANGELES TIMES

Apparently, former Mater DeiSanta Ana quarterback Bryce Young is already rolling in riches as the quarterback at Alabama in college sports’ new NIL era — name, image and likeness — before taking a snap as the starter.

Alabama coach Nick Saban told a group at the Texas High School Coaches Association convention Tuesday that Young, the top quarterback prospect in the 2020 class, is approaching millionaire status with deals he’s made.

“Our QB has already approached ungodly numbers, and he hasn’t even (started) yet,” Saban said, according to 247Sports.

Young signed with Creative Artists Agency for marketing. He announced his first deal was with Cash App.

It should not come as a surprise that Saban would mention Young’s marketability in front of Texas high school coaches. Expect comments like these from college coaches to be a huge part of the recruiting frontier.

“That’s because of our brand,” Saban said of Young’s financial success.

Frayin’ Deion: Jackson State coach Deion Sanders walked out of the Southwestern Athletic Conference media day in Birmingham, Ala., after a reporter twice called him by his first name.

“You don’t call Nick Saban ‘Nick.’ Don’t call me Deion,” the Hall of Fame cornerback/return man and secondyear head coach said, invoking the Alabama head coach. Sanders left after being called by his first name a second time.
