Bucs’ Brady, Biden joke at visit to White House

-

Tom Brady embraced his inner comedian to deliver jokes at Donald Trump’s expense Tuesday when he and the Super Bowlwinning Tampa Bay Buccaneers visited President Biden at the White House, the first visit by the reigning NFL champions since 2017.

The seventime Super Bowl champion compared those backing Trump’s false assertion that he won the 2020 election to people who couldn’t believe the underdog Buccaneers beat the

Kansas City Chiefs.

“Not a lot of people think that we could have won, and in fact I think about 40% of the people still don’t think we won,” Brady said. “You understand that, Mr. President?” Biden responded, “I understand that.”

Brady has won the Super Bowl during four administrations but skipped visits by the Patriots in 2015 with Barack Obama and 2017 with Trump.

⏩ Rams running back Cam Akers tore his Achilles in training. Akers, 22, was on track to be the featured back in an offense that was expected to be rejuvenated by the arrival of veteran quarterback Matthew Stafford.

⏩ ESPN reported that Aaron Rodgers, 38, declined a twoyear extension from the Packers this offseason that would have made him the highestpaid quarterback and tied him to the Packers through 2025.

⏩ Defensive end Alex Okafor, 30, signed a oneyear deal to return to the Chiefs. He has 30 sacks in eight NFL seasons.

⏩ The 19 members from the 2020 and 2021 classes to be enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame have been asked to limit their speeches to six minutes. The 2020 class wasn’t enshrined because of the pandemic, so the weekend will mark the largest number of inductees in history.
