McCutchen drive upends Nationals

Andrew McCutchen hit a threerun homer in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Phillies a 65 victory over the sinking Nationals on Monday night.

Rhys Hoskins also had a threerun homer for secondplac­e Philadelph­ia, which is 31⁄2 games behind the Mets in the NL East.

Jean Segura led off the ninth against Brad Hand (55) with a double. After J.T. Realmuto struck out, Bryce Harper walked. McCutchen drove the next pitch, a 92 mph sinker, to the opposite field and over the wall in right.

It was the second straight blown save for Hand.

Archie Bradley (51) allowed a run in the top of the ninth but got the win.

Josh Bell tripled and drove in two runs for Washington, which has lost five straight and 11 of 14.

Braves, Mets split: Jeff McNeil laced his second goahead hit in two days when his RBI double in the fifth inning sent host New York to a 10 victory over Atlanta and a doublehead­er split. Kyle Muller threw five sharp innings to earn his second bigleague victory in the Braves’ 20 win in the opener.

Red Sox 5, Blue Jays 4: Alex Verdugo hit a tworun homer in the eighth inning and AL Eastleadin­g Boston rallied late for the second straight game to beat visiting Toronto.

Royals 4, White Sox 3:

Jorge Soler hit two home runs for the second straight game and host Kansas City extended its winning streak to six games.

Cubs 6, Reds 5: Pinchhitte­r Javier Baez hit a basesloade­d single in the bottom of the ninth inning to give Chicago a win.

Twins 6, Tigers 5: Max Kepler’s RBI single in the bottom of the 10th inning against AllStar closer Gregory Soto gave Minnesota a victory over Detroit.
