Mariners continue to dominate Rays

Jake Fraley had a tworun single during a fiverun third, Chris Flexen went 62⁄3 solid innings, and the Mariners continued their dominance of the AL Eastleadin­g Rays with an 82 win Monday in St. Petersburg, Fla.

Seattle is 50 against Tampa Bay this season, and is only team in 2021 that the Rays have played and haven’t beaten at least once.

Fraley, who was activated before the game after being on the COVID19 injured list since July 18, also made a diving catch in left field on Brandon Lowe’s liner in the third. Fraley went 2for4 with a walk and stole a base.

“A great ballgame overall,” Seattle manager Scott Servais said. “We put the starting pitching together with a lot of really good atbats. Big offensive right for us. Flex was great.”

Flexen (105) gave up two runs and seven hits, helping the Mariners move three games back of the A’s, who hold the second AL wildcard spot. The righthande­r struck out six and walked two.

Marlins 6, Mets 2: Lewis Brinson connected for a firstinnin­g grand slam to back former A’s pitcher Jesús Luzardo in his Miami debut, and the lastplace Marlins beat visiting New York. Luzardo allowed three runs on four hits in five innings. The lefthander struck out five, walked three and hit a batter.

Indians 5, Blue Jays 2: Jose Ramirez homered to cap a threerun 10th inning and visiting Cleveland ended Toronto’s winning streak at four games.

Orioles 7, Yankees 1:

Baltimore hit four solo homers off newcomer Andrew Heaney and beat host New York. Cedric Mullins, Austin Hays, Ryan Mountcastl­e and Ramon Urias homered for the Orioles.

Phillies 6, Nationals 5:

J.T. Realmuto hit a goahead, tworun single to highlight a fiverun rally in the ninth inning that carried visiting Philadelph­ia over Washington.

Brewers 6, Pirates 2:

Eduardo Escobar hit a threerun homer and an RBI triple to back up Eric Lauer’s five shutout innings in host Milwaukee’s victory.

Rangers 4, Angels 1:

Dane Dunning won consecutiv­e starts for the first time this season for Texas, and the Rangers took the lead for good with a double steal in a win over visiting Los Angeles. The Angels’ Shohei Ohtani went 0for4 at the plate.
