Alison Riske beat fellow American Coco Vandeweghe in straight sets, 63, 64, to advance to the second round at the Mubadala Silicon Valley Classic tournament in San Jose.

Riske faces Ana Konjuh of Croatia, who beat Czech Republic’s Marie Bouzkova 75, 36, 75.

Poland’s Magda Linette beat Lesley Pattinama Kerkhove of the Netherland­s 63, 63. She faces Petra Martic of Croatia, who beat Anastasija Sevastova of Latvia by the same score.

Tuesday’s secondroun­d schedule includes two AllAmerica­n night matches: Catherine McNally against Sloane Stephens, then Danielle Collins against Shelby Rogers.
