-

Marilyn Marie (Rainey) Mason, of Rossmoor (Walnut Creek), died peacefully on Wednesday August 11th, 2021, at home with loving family by her side.

She was born August 2, 1943 in Carlyle, Illinois, to parents Frieda and Ralph Rainey.

Marilyn graduated from Carlyle High School in 1961. She went on to attended the School of Nursing at Barnes College, in St. Louis, at which time she would meet her future husband, and later get married and raise a family of three boys. Many years later, after divorcing, she earned her bachelor of arts degree at St. Mary’s College in Moraga, Calif. She would try her hand at marriage one more time, only to eventually decide her life was better as a strong, independent and single woman. After numerous years working in healthcare, she started a career as a medical-legal consultant. She was a published author in both clinical nursing and medical-legal consulting. She was a founder and eventually president of the American Association of Legal Nurse Consultants. She retired in 2016 as the office manager of the law firm Winer, Mckenna & Davis, in Oakland, Ca.

Survivors include two sons, James Mason of San Carlos, Ca., and Robert Mason and girlfriend Kimberly of San Jose, Ca.; sister Phyllis Albat and husband Edward of Carlyle, Il.; sister-in-law Kim Rainey of McKinney, Tx; Niece Tammy Eigenrauch, husband Wayne, daughter Tiffany and son Travis; nephew Jason Rainey, wife Sarah and two boys, Benjamin and Colt; and niece Jessica Carver and husband Rusty.

She was preceded in death by her eldest son, Charles “Chip” H. Mason III; her parents Frieda and Ralph Rainey; and brother Gary Rainey.

Marilyn enjoyed cooking, taking care of her garden and had a passion for quilting, which led to numerous trunk shows and her on-line Etsy store, “Wine Creek Designs.” She was very active in her community, serving as a board member and eventually president for the social club, “Sunday Salon,” and as a board member for her HOA section, “Third Mutual.”
