A good night’s rest
Regarding “Keep the noise down” (Letters, Sept. 12): Thank you to the author for her heartfelt comments about quiet and safety.
We moved to our bucolic neighborhood in west Marin 35 years ago to escape the noise of the city. Mostly, it has been a wonderful life, quiet and safe. We are lucky to have many considerate neighbors.
Our walls are not thin, and our population is not dense, but an incessant barking dog in the middle of the night, or an angry couple who scream at each other and then party until 3 a.m., a person who empties the trash and recyclables at 2 a.m., a hot tub that sounds like a tractor, or a crooner singing outside after midnight disturb the peace and quiet.
An uninterrupted sleep gives me energy and patience, helps me to focus, puts me in a positive mood and makes me more mentally and physically sharp. Acknowledging the value of a good night’s sleep is something we should teach in our schools.
