Turn highway into park

-

Thanks to Kurtis Alexander for his informative “Coastline in flux” (Sept. 9). Since “City, state and federal officials involved with the work say they may be able to shore up the coast, but they concede the road is no match for the changing climate,” the southern stretch of Great Highway will close to auto traffic in early 2023. This will make Great Highway an even less efficient route from the Richmond to the South Bay, making Mayor London Breed and Supervisor Gordon Mar’s emergency declaration to reinstate cars on the Great Highway a head-scratcher. Why not leave the Great Highway as a park for all San Francisco residents to use?

Besides, our Sunset businesses are hurting again since opening Great Highway to cars acts as a bypass through the Sunset with no exits to visit our stores and restaurants. Let’s fast-forward the inevitable and help the neighborhood in one fell swoop.
