WHAT TO WATCH

- — Steve Kroner

Because of a surge in coronavirus cases in Honolulu, fans will not be allowed to attend the game at the retrofitted Clarence T.C. Ching Athletics Complex on campus. The Rainbow Warriors will be playing there for at least a few years as their former home, Aloha Stadium, is expected to be demolished late next year.

The Spartans need to play cleaner football than they did in their first two games. San Jose State has been outscored 21-0 in points off turnovers, including two pick-sixes thrown by Nick Starkel. Also, the Spartans have committed 21 penalties for 184 yards. For comparison, their opponents have been flagged 10 times for 80 yards.

San Jose State must try to contain dual-threat quarterback Chevan Cordeiro. “They have a lot of playmakers on offense,” San Jose State head coach Brent Brennan said, “but I think it all starts with him.” Cordeiro has passed for 891 yards and run for 125 this season. He has, however, thrown five interceptions.
