Vallejo police are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred in a busy shopping center along Interstate 80 — the second homicide in two days in the city, according to officials.

At 1:19 p.m. Thursday, police responded to a report of a shooting on the 900 block of Admiral Callaghan Lane in Vallejo, near the Gateway Plaza shopping center just off I-80 across from Six Flags Discovery Kingdom.

Upon arriving, police found the victim — a 38-year-old resident of

Richmond — suffering from at least one gunshot wound, officials said. The man was pronounced dead at the scene by Vallejo Fire Department officers.

The victim's identity is being withheld pending next of kin notification by the Solano County Coroner's

Office. The Vallejo Police Department Detective Division is investigating the motive and circumstances of the shooting.

It was the second deadly shooting in two days in the East Bay city. On Wednesday morning, officers responded to a shooting in the 100 block of Hillborn Street, a largely residential area.

The victim, a man in his 20s, was also pronounced dead at the scene, and that shooting is also under investigation.

The Thursday shooting was the city's 12th homicide this year, according to police. Vallejo saw 28 total homicides in 2020, and 12 in 2019, police records show.
