Barrett’s 3-point bank pushes Knicks to win

RJ Barrett banked in a 3-pointer at the buzzer to give the Knicks a 108-105 comeback victory over the Boston Celtics in New York on Thursday.

Evan Fournier scored a career-high 41 points, and the Knicks overcame a 24-point, second-quarter deficit. The teams will finish the home-and-home set Saturday night in Boston.

Jayson Tatum scored 36 points for Boston. He tied it on a long step-back jumper with just over a second to play. The Knicks inbounded after a timeout, and Barrett banked in the long-distance shot for the victory.

Julius Randle added 22 points for New York, Immanuel Quickley had 16, and Barrett 13. The Knicks didn’t lead until there were just over two minutes left.

Dennis Schroder added 20 points for Boston, and Jaylen Brown had 16. Grizzlies 118, Pistons 88: Ja Morant had 22 points, nine rebounds and six assists and host Memphis built an early lead and coasted to its seventh straight win.

Dillon Brooks finished with 18 points, and Tyus Jones and rookie Ziaire Williams added 14 points apiece for Memphis, a season high for Williams.

Briefly: Former Warriors center DeMarcus Cousins, who had 15 points and 10 rebounds in 20 minutes for the Bucks on Wednesday, was placed on waivers. The move comes a day before his contract would have become guaranteed for the rest of the season. ... Center Bismack Biyambo, who signed a 10-day hardship contract with the Suns, has agreed to a contract with the team for the rest of the season, ESPN reported. Biyambo is 11-for-13 from the field in two games with Phoenix. ... Guard Tyler Johnson, a St. Francis High alum who played three games with the 76ers this season, agreed to a 10-day contract with the Spurs, ESPN reported. ... Center Greg Monroe, who played three games with the Timberwolv­es while on a just-expired 10-day contract, signed a 10-day contract with the Wizards, the team announced on Twitter. ... Forward Stanley Johnson signed a second 10-day contract with the Lakers, the team announced on Twitter. His previous deal expired Monday. ... The Knicks signed guard Ryan Arcidiacon­o to a 10-day contract. ... The league fined Kings assistant general manager Wes Wilcox $15,000 and the team $50,000 for violating league rules prohibitin­g team owners and executives from interactin­g with scorer’s table personnel during game play.
