Oregon women get hot from outside to beat Cal

The Oregon women started hot from outside and coasted to an 88-53 victory over Cal on Sunday afternoon at Haas Pavilion.

Oregon went 6-for-8 from 3-point range in the first quarter and finished 14-for-26 from beyond the arc. Sydney Parrish made her first six attempts and finished with 21 points. TeHina Paopao was 4-for-5 on 3-point tries and had 21 points, as well.

Oregon (8-5, 1-1 Pac-12) led 16-2 in the first five minutes. The Bears closed out the first quarter with three 3-pointers, but still trailed 26-13.

Jayda Curry led the Bears (9-4, 0-2) with 13 points. Evelien Lutje Schipholt added 10 points and eight rebounds.

#1 South Carolina 74, #21 Kentucky 54: Aliyah Boston had 18 points and 15 rebounds as the host Gamecocks (15-1, 3-1 SEC) improved to 8-0 against ranked opponents this season. It was their fifth straight win over the Wildcats (8-4, 1-1) and third in a row since their lone loss, 70-69 in overtime at Missouri on Dec. 30.

USC 76, #4 Arizona 67: Alyson Miura hit four of her career-high five 3pointers in the fourth quarter and finished with 15 points to help the host Trojans (8-4, 1-1 Pac-12) stop the Wildcats. Cate Reese led Arizona (22-2, 1-1) with a season-high 29 points — one shy of her career best.

#5 N.C. State 76, Miami 64: Elissa Cunane scored 19 points, Diamond Johnson added 16 and the visiting Wolfpack (14-2, 5-0) remained atop the ACC. Kelsey Marshall scored 17 points for the Hurricanes (7-5, 0-2).

#7 Tennessee 70, Mississipp­i 58: Jordan Horston scored 20 points and had 11 rebounds as the visiting Lady Vols (13-2, 1-1 SEC) snapped the Rebels’ 13-game winning streak. Mississipp­i (13-2, 1-1) trailed by 20 early in the second half and trailed by double digits the rest of the way.

#8 Michigan 76, Rutgers 47: Naz Hlllman and Leigha Brown each scored 19 points in a rout for the host Wolverines (13-2, 4-1 Big Ten). Lasha Petree scored 18 points for the Scarlet Knights (7-10, 0-5).

#9 Texas 93, Texas Rio Grande Valley 58: Aliyah Matharu scored 18 points in just 19 minutes for the host Longhorns (11-2). The game was a last-minute addition made Friday as both schools had league games postponed because of the coronaviru­s.

#10 Maryland 87, Minnesota 73: In Minneapoli­s, Chloe Bibby scored 23 points to lead a balanced offense for Maryland (12-4, 4-1 Big Ten). Deja Winters led Minnesota (8-8, 1-3) with 20 points.

Colorado 71, UCLA 63: In Boulder, Colo., Jaylin Sherrod scored 25 points as the Buffaloes (13-0, 2-0 Pac-12) rallied to win. Natalie Chou led the Bruins (5-4, 0-1) with 15 points.

Colorado St. 90, San Jose St. 64: The host Rams (11-2, 2-1 Mountain West) got 32 points from Upe Atosu and did not trail after the first minute to beat the Spartans (3-10, 0-2). Cydni Lewis scored 24 points for San Jose State.

MEN

#13 Ohio St. 95, Northweste­rn 87:

E.J. Liddell scored a career-high 34 points and the host Buckeyes (10-3, 4-1 Big Ten) beat the Wildcats (8-5, 1-3).

#23 Wisconsin 70, Maryland 69: Tyler Wahl scored a career-high 21 points, Johnny Davis added 19, and the visiting Badgers (13-2, 4-1 Big Ten) nearly squandered a 21-point lead. Eric Ayala scored all 19 of his points in the second half for the Terps (8-7, 0-4).

Colorado 78, Washington 64: Tristan da Silva scored a career-high 22 points and the host Buffaloes (11-4, 3-1 Pac-12) downed the Huskies (6-7, 1-2).

Michigan sidelined: The PurdueMich­igan game Tuesday night has been postponed because the Wolverines have fewer than seven scholarshi­p players cleared to play because of virus protocols.
