Cal’s Martorella keys win at Moraga

Red-hot Nathan Martorella hit a two-run homer and three Cal pitchers combined on a twohitter as the Bears (16-16) rolled 6-0 at St. Mary’s (20-13).

Aaron Roberts (two innings), Tucker Bougie (four innings) and Connor Sullivan (three innings) combined for five strikeouts and two walks.

Earlier Monday, Martorella, a junior first baseman, was named the Pac-12 Player of the Week as he went 10-for-19 with four doubles,

a triple and two homers in a four-game stretch.

NHL: Evgeny Svechnikov scored a tie-breaking goal midway through the third period, and the Winnipeg Jets beat the host Montreal Canadiens 4-2.

⏩ Los Angeles Kings defenseman Drew Doughty will miss the rest of the season after undergoing surgery on his wrist.

⏩ The Penguins’ Evgeni Malkin was suspended four games for cross-checking Nashville’s Mark Borowiecki in the face Sunday.

College basketball: Florida big man Colin Castleton is returning for a fifth season, a boost for new head coach Todd Golden. Castleton, a 6-foot-11 forward, led the Gators with 16.2 points and 9.0 rebounds per game last season.

NFL: The Washington Commanders re-signed kicker Joey Slye, who played in three games last season for the 49ers.

Obituary: Gary Brown, who rushed for 4,300 yards while playing on three NFL teams in the 1990s before coaching running backs in the pro and college ranks, has died. He was 52 and had several bouts with cancer.

Tennis: Alexander Bublik cut short Stan Wawrinka’s return, defeating the Swiss player 3-6, 7-5, 6-2 in the first round of the Monte Carlo Masters in Monaco.
