Muñoz goes for 60 at Byron Nelson
Sebastian Muñoz shot a 12under-par 60 in the opening round of the Byron Nelson, following his only bogey with an impressive mid-round surge to become the first player in PGA Tour history with two rounds of 60 or better in the same season.
Thursday’s round was good for a four-stroke lead over defending champion K.H. Lee, Mito Pereira, Peter Malnati and Justin Lower.
Masters champion Scottie Scheffler, the No. 1 player in the world, Jordan Spieth and 11thranked Dustin Johnson all opened with a 67.
Muñoz also had a 60 in the opening round of the RSM Classic at Seaside in Georgia in November, although that was a 10-under score.

Tennis: With just 10 days to go before the French Open, Rafael Nadal is struggling with an injury again. Nadal was hampered by a foot problem toward the end of a 1-6, 7-5, 6-2 third-round loss to Denis Shapovalov at the Italian Open in Rome.
Earlier, top-ranked Novak Djokovic was untroubled in a 6-2, 6-2 win over Stan Wawrinka.
In the women’s tournament, top-ranked Iga Swiatek was tested before pulling out a 6-4, 6-1 victory over former No. 1 Victoria Azarenka to reach the quarterfinals and extend her winning streak to 25 matches.
Obituary: Gino Cappelletti, a former AFL Most Valuable Player and original member of the Boston Patriots who was part of the franchise for five decades as a player, coach and broadcaster, died Thursday at 89 at his home in Wellesley, Mass.
Known as “The Duke,” Cappelletti played receiver and kicker and scored the first regularseason points in AFL history, a 35-yard field goal in the first quarter of the Patriots’ 13-10 loss to the Denver Broncos on Sept. 9, 1960. He went on to be the league’s MVP in 1964 and was one of three men to play a full schedule in each of the AFL’s 10 seasons, along with Jim Otto and George Blanda.
