A Palo Alto man drowned in Lake Tahoe after his boat capsized, the El Dorado County Sheriff ’s Office said.

Theodore Fletcher, 58, died after the boat he was in with another person overturned in Meek’s Bay on the west shore of Lake Tahoe on May 5, plunging the occupants into the cold water, estimated to be about 46 degrees this time of year.

The El Dorado County Sheriff, U.S. Coast Guard and Meek’s Bay Fire Protection District responded. The other person in the boat was able to make it to shore safely, Sgt. Eric Palmberg said. Coast Guard officers spotted

Fletcher about 15 feet down at the bottom of the lake.

His body was recovered and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
