Journey has canceled the last four dates of its sold-out North American arena tour after a band member tested positive for the coronavirus, according to a statement posted to social media this week.

The iconic San Francisco band — which played a hometown show at Chase Center in March — did not specify which member has the coronavirus but said it would reschedule the concerts that were set to take place this week in Washington, D.C., and Hartford, Conn., before heading to Canada for stops in Toronto and Quebec.

The Chronicle has reached out to the band’s spokesperson for more details.

Journey’s tour was a celebration ahead of the band’s first studio album in more than a decade, “Freedom,” which is set for release July 8. It marks the first album of new material Journey has released since 2011’s “Eclipse” and was recorded with a studio lineup that includes guitarist Neal Schon, keyboard player Jonathan Cain and vocalist Arnel Pineda.

Bassist Ross Valory and drummer Steve Smith, who last played with Journey in 2019, parted ways with the band before the recording began. But rejoining the band on the new album is bassist Randy Jackson, the former “American Idol’’ judge who previously played on the band’s 1986 album “Raised on Radio.”
